What's Going On In Our Class.....
Wk Starting 1/24:
Math: We will be wrapping up money with a test on Wednesday. We will be starting our unit on fractions. Please talk about fractions with your child while cooking and sharing fair shares.
Reading: We will continue learning about the art of poetry which ties into our Writing this week.
Writing: Students will be working with popcorn or jelly beans to develop sensory words. The goal is to write sensory poems this week. Also, students will learn to write a simile poem with special adjectives.
Science: Students will Identify factors in the environment, including temperature and precipitation,that affect growth and behavior such as migration, hibernation, and dormancy of living things.
1/18:
Math: money, money, money! We will wrap up this week with a review next week (1-24) and a test Tuesday (1-25). A study guide will come home on 1-19!
Reading: We will wrap up Tall Tales and Fables and start our Poetry unit learning what poetry is.
Writing: This week we will be sharing our letters with each other. Students will have further opportunities to write with detail and expression. An assessment on letter writing will be given.
Science: This week we will focus on the basic needs of animals. Students will learn that living organisms have basic needs that must be met for them to survive within their environment.

-Homework:
Read 20 minutes/day and discuss with your child what was read to check for understanding.
Xtramath.com is great for practicing math facts from home.
Parents' Homework:) -
Instead of asking your child when he/she gets home, "How was your day?", try:
"What was one thing you learned new today?" You can even ask by subject.
This is a great way to keep communication open with your child, start a good habit, and see what your child might be struggling with which gives you some direction on what you can work on extra at home. It also helps you to NOT hear the response, "Oh, nothing."
